BALTIMORE, MD – After winning both tournaments it entered in the second half, Fairleigh Dickinson University of Teaneck, NJ received 20 out of a possible 24 first place votes and regained the top spot in the National Tenpins Coaches Association national poll. The NTCA conducts monthly polls that rank and list the top twenty NCAA women’s bowling programs during the regular season.
The FDU Knights (71-15, .826), who were the preseason #1 ranked team and the #2 ranked team in the national poll released prior to this one, have been hot in the second half. FDU won tournament titles at the 28-team Kutztown Invitational in Reading, PA and the 15-team DSU Capital City Classic in Dover, winning 31 of its last 37 matches along the way.
Ranked second was the University of Maryland Eastern Shore of Princess Anne, MD. UMES (73-25, .745) competed in four 3-day events during the first five weeks of the second half. The Hawks, who collected three first place votes, finished fourth at the 14-team Mid-Winter Classic in Cabot, AR; fourth at the 10-team Big Red Invitational in Lincoln, NE; second at the Kutztown Invitational; and third at the DSU Capital City Classic.
The University of Central Missouri of Warrensburg, MO was the third ranked team. The Jennies (47-18, .723), who garnished one first place vote, have begun the second half just like they ended the first. UCM closed out the first half in Midlothian, VA with the Jeannette Lee Invitational championship. Since then, the Jennies have placed second at the Mid-Winter Classic and won the Big Red Invitational championship.
The fourth ranked team was the University of Nebraska of Lincoln, NE. After winning the only two events they entered during the first half of the season, the Huskers (35-10, .778) are returning to action this weekend after a fifth place finish at the Mid-Winter Classic and a third place finish at the Big Red Invitational.
Making the biggest move, Vanderbilt University of Nashville, TN navigated seven places up the poll to fifth place.
